When Seb and Janna Laan Lomas set out to build their dream family home, sustainability was at the core of every decision. Inspired by natural materials and guided by Passivhaus principles, the couple constructed Llama Croft—a bio-based home using timber, clay, and lime. To ensure the durability of the vapour-open structure, they installed a real-time moisture monitoring solution by Tector. The iconic Copenhagen City Hall Tower, standing at 105.6 metres, has witnessed countless events since its completion in 1905. To ensure its preservation for decades to come, Rambøll Denmark, in collaboration with the Municipality of Copenhagen, implemented a moisture monitoring strategy during the construction process, using Tector’s monitoring system. Kársnesskóli, Iceland’s largest mass timber construction project, was on track to become the country’s first primary school to receive Swan certification, but severe water damage delayed construction. VERKVIST, the new consultant engineering firm with decades of experience taking over the project, needed a reliable solution to protect the building from further moisture-related issues during and after construction. By implementing Tector’s advanced moisture detection system, VERKVIST resumed construction with confidence, knowing that the structure was safeguarded from future moisture damage.

In the first-ever CLT (Cross-Laminated Timber) construction project in the Faroe Islands, the contractor and client set out to demonstrate that timber construction is possible in a climate with three times as much rain as the UK. To monitor moisture levels throughout the build, they partnered with DTU (Technical University of Denmark), which recommended Tector’s sensor solution. The use of Tector sensors allowed the project team to maintain moisture control from day one, ensuring the long-term durability and sustainability of the timber structure.

Smith & Wallwork, faced water damage risks during the construction of the Northgate House in the center of Oxford. Traditional moisture monitoring methods proved inadequate.

In response, Tector's wireless sensors were strategically placed, providing real-time data on moisture, temperature, and humidity. This proactive approach enabled the building owner to detect another leak that they initially thought had been fixed, which could have led to structural risks and another round of costly repairs if it had gone undetected.

The REWINNUSE project, in collaboration with M-Sora, the Slovenian Forestry Institute, and the Norwegian Institute for Bioeconomic Research (NIBIO), aimed to address the challenges faced by Slovenian joinery manufacturers in sourcing raw material, particularly spruce wood. With spruce becoming increasingly scarce and expensive, alternative wood species and innovative window design were explored.
